Futon Frames - High Quality and American Made
We offer several different styles of futon frames. Our futon frames are separated into two categories, Basic Series and Signature Series. Our Basic Series collection features several quality futon frames for those who may be looking for something simple or inexpensive. Our Signature Series collection includes many elegant designs and finishes to match any setting. Each futon frame is sold separately from mattress and cover unless otherwise stated. This allows you to make your own selection based on your budget, style and preferences. Every futon frame is American Made and constructed from only solid maple or ash. In addition to the classic sofa style in full or queen size, we also offer three sizes of loungers, allowing you the option of a standard bed size, while taking up the floor space of a love seat or a chair and a half. Matching armchairs, ottomans and chair loungers also allow you to complete an entire room setting.
Futon Mattresses – Quality Construction
Our futon mattresses are designed to be comfortable and durable while using the most environmentally low impact foam replacements available. We have both innerspring / coil futon mattresses and traditional fiber-foam and cotton futon mattresses, available for virtually any size futon, chair, ottoman, or platform bed. Most of our futon mattresses are available in Chair, Twin, Full, Queen, King sizes, and many are available as split mattresses (for lounger style futon frames). Please see our Futon Mattresses section for more information about our mattresses.
Futon Covers – The Finishing Touch
We have a broad selection of futon covers that can be ordered to fit any futon mattress. The Futon Covers category in our site navigation menu allows you to browse by style, cleaning method, and color. The Cover Search Page helps you narrow your search even further. When selecting a futon cover please note that each computer monitor displays colors slightly differently. If finding an exact color is important, purchase a fabric swatch of any material for only $3 each including shipping.
Quality Platform Beds
We also feature quality American-made platform beds. Each platform bed is made from solid ash or maple and features our 12-year limited warranty. Available in several finishes, each bed frame coordinates perfectly with our futon frames, dressers, and tables. Our platform beds can be used with a traditional bed mattress, natural latex mattress or one of our many futon mattresses. A box spring is not required with this type of bed, as our hardwood slat system offers solid support. However, if your mattress requires the use of a box spring, please contact our customer support line before placing your order. We can optionally raise the height of the headboard so that it is not hidden by your mattress.

Futon Buyer Beware
Watch out for cheap futon frames and cheap futon mattresses. Many discount store and Internet futon combo packages have their life expectancy measured in days and weeks rather than years like our products. The poor quality futon sets that are sold only give a really great and useful product a poor reputation. Examples of this are thin foam mattresses that start to compress on the first use leaving the narrow steel or wood slats poking through, steel decks that when bent are not repairable, missing or bent hardware, and no opportunity for replacement or warranty parts from a foreign manufacturer. Unfortunately, these problems with inexpensive, imported futons are all most people know of futons. A futon can and should be just as comfortable as a traditional bed and as durable as any other well-constructed piece of furniture.

What is a futon?
If you were to consult a dictionary, you would find that a futon has its origins in Japan, where it is simply a thin mattress, usually filled with layers of cotton batting and encased in cotton fabric. The modern product as developed in the USA in the 1970's , however, generally refers to a combination of a futon mattress or “futon”, with a futon frame, and a zippered slipcover, the futon cover.
The basic components of a modern day futon:
Futon Frame - An adjustable, raised base to support the futon mattress and allow the mattress to be used as a sofa, lounger and chair or a bed.
Futon Mattress – The bendable cushion on which you sit or sleep with fillings of cotton batting, springs, foam or other like components.
Futon Cover – A decorative, protective and cleanable cover that zippers on and encases your futon mattress.
Are futons comfortable?
It all depends on what you choose! Many discount store futons are notorious for being thin, hard and uncomfortable. Fortunately, our futons are very comfortable and are designed to feel just like a traditional bed. And like choosing a traditional bed mattress, there are differences in the futon mattresses designed to appeal to your own sitting and sleeping preferences. Mattresses with an innerspring/coil unit in the center tend to be the most popular as they retain their feel and shape consistently longer. Those looking for average softness tend to go with the Eight Coil which supports with a stable, sturdy feel. The Posture Perfect is our firmest, most supportive innerspring mattress but has a softer touch in the top layer to soften this support. Our Comfort Classic offers the most support without motion transfer due to it's individually wrapped coil unit and its ability to “float” the user on its components. Do you prefer a more classic, firmer feel in your mattress? We offer three types of classic cotton and fiber foam cushions that offer a less bouncy feel, more like traditional mattresses. The futon frame itself contributes to the overall comfort of the mattress as well: we use thick hardwood slats as opposed to thin metal bars or slats found on many other futons. These durable slats provide more support for the mattress, which means more comfort for you, and a longer lasting mattress. More information about futon mattresses can be found in that section of our website.
